Review

From the opening scene, of our hero dangling a man (and his dog) from a rooftop by his tie, you are intrigued to find out what is going on. Our Hero Oh Dae-Su is kidnapped on his daughters birthday and wrongly imprisoned for 15 years without explanation.

He is held captive in what appears to be a hotel room and fed dumplings everyday of his sentence. With only a TV to keep him company, he learns that his wife has been murdered and that he is the only suspect. As time goes by he begins to go crazy with rage and tries to escape his prison using only a chopstick and his bare hands.

Just when he thinks he will escape, he is released without explanation.

He is befriended by a girl, when he passes out in her restaurant. She tries to help him find out who imprisoned him and why, and they embark on a somehow unintentionally disturbing journey.

If you’re new to World Cinema, or even if you’re a connoisseur this violent South Korean, psycho thriller, with vivid direction and cinematography, fast paced fight scenes and mind twisting plot and reveal, will blow you away.
